Preserving Indonesian Nature, Waskita Plants 40 Thousand Mangrove Trees in Tangerang

To support efforts to preserve the coastal area of Ketapang, Tangerang Regency, and to commemorate the 61st anniversary of PT Waskita Karya (Persero) Tbk, the company planted 40 thousand mangrove seedlings on the coast of Ketapang Mangrove Park, Tangerang Regency on Wednesday (22/12). In an area of about 14.5 hectares, there are about 250000 mangroves planted. The mangroves consist of 16 species, such as Rhizophora and Bruguera.

So that the seed support by Waskita will enrich and add to efforts to preserve the mangrove forest area in the area. In addition, the holding of this event was also based on the Letter of the Deputy of HR, Technology, and Information of the Ministry of SOEs No.S-188/DSI.MBU/10/2021 dated October 5, 2021, regarding the Implementation of the SOE TJSL Program.

Climate change and reducing carbon emissions are being discussed in many countries, one of which is about the Involvement of companies in protecting and preserving nature so that it remains sustainable in a sustainable manner. As a form of Waskita's concern for stakeholders, through the Social & Environmental Responsibility Program (TJSL), which is guided by the ISO 26000 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

This activity is a form of the Company's social and environmental participation and responsibility toward the environment, starting with the symbolic planting by the President Director of PT Waskita Karya (Persero) Tbk Destiawan Soewardjono, Finance and Risk Management Director Taufik Hendra Kusuma, Senior Vice President Corporate Secretary Mrs. Ratna Ningrum, Senior Vice President Legal Division Novianto A. Nugroho, and Head of Social and Environment Responsibility Unit Poppy Sukmawati. Also present was the Head of the Fishery Products Technology Section of the Tangerang Regency Fisheries Service, Hari Mahardika.

"In the context of the 61st anniversary of Waskita, which will fall on The 1st January 2022, this event was held to mark Waskita's concern for the Preservation of the coastal environment by planting mangroves. In addition, as a state-owned enterprise, this activity is a manifestation of the Implementation of the Social and Environmental Responsibility Program that encourages sustainable development," said Mr. Destiawan.

"This area has great potential to develop better Mangrove plants can be processed into various consumer products such as syrup or traditional cakes. Therefore, Waskita strongly supports the growth of MSMEs around the Ketapang Mangrove Park area and opens opportunities to become Waskita Karya's fostered partners," he concluded.

The Company always supports efforts to conserve nature, including coastal areas as part of Waskita's transformation for sustainable development. Hari Mahardika welcomes the support from Waskita Karya and hopes that the current support through mangrove planting can develop better.

“In the Ketapang Mangrove Park, there are 16 types of mangroves, including a rare species, namely Bruguirea serioptagal. We express our appreciation for Waskita Karya's support, hopefully, the mangrove seedlings planted can grow well so that they provide wider benefits not only for coastal nature but also economic benefits for the surrounding community through sustainable use of mangroves," he said.
